SLOWMO Games was my first venture into the hypercasual games market. We were able to work with Voodoo Games as our publisher, which is the biggest in the sector. 
We were 4 gameplay programmers/game designers and 1 game artist and we had to brainstorm game concept ideas that would be pitched to Voodoo. If approved, we would then develop the prototypes (each developer working on separate prototypes), generally over a week or two using placeholder assets. 
Once the gameplay was polished enough and with a couple of levels to play, the game artist would then replace the placeholder assets and the prototype was then shown on social media through ads to see whether or not it has potential. If not, which is normal in this sector, you start over with a new concept.
Occasionally I would spend a week coming with game pitches to make sure we always some in advance.
