Artist Statement
Butterflies of Hope was painted during one of the most difficult periods of my lifetime. You see a fox floating in endless darkness, but surrounded by shining stars and golden butterflies. The message of this painting is, when we feel as if we are stuck in nothing but darkness, I’ve found that it is best not to focus on the darkness itself, but whatever wonderful bits that light up our lives even brighter because of it. My mom, dad, sister, brother, grandmother, friends and partner are my butterflies of hope. Butterflies of Hope is painted with both acrylic and tempera paints. It is inspired by a trip I took to a butterfly garden with my mom. It took 6 months to complete and within that time I’ve grown as a person to truly understand its message as to why this life is worth fighting for.
