The Spring/Summer 2014 issue of Wedding411 is one of my favorite issues to date. I decided to add an element to this issue that I favored while creating ads; clean modern lines. I experimented by pairing these clean lines with a script font for a few of the editorial pieces (seen below). Throughout this issue (388 pages), I designed 102 ads and 23 stories (104 pages).
The editorial piece below is a photo driven editorial piece featuring different hair & makeup styles.
I wanted to keep this editorial piece fairly simple by keeping very little text and
design elements off of the photographs. This gave the piece a very clean and classy look.
The magazine often features stories on fashion forward trends. This was one of them. Alex and Ani
is a growing trend in the jewelry industry. The overall idea of the jewelry itself is simple.
Oftentimes, there is only one pendant per bangle that is either worn individually or layered
with other bangles. I took the idea of the bangles themselves as inspiration
for the piece below. Simple with a few overlapping layers.
For the following editorial piece, I chose to go off the grid a bit as far as brand colors. None of the brand colors that we use throughout the magazine looked nice with the photos submitted. Naturally, I decided the best way to get colors for the article was to pull them directly from the photos themselves. In addition, I also did not feel as if the brand fonts looks quite right with these fabulous looking drinks. I chose to use the display font Calamity Jane NF to give it that slightly retro feel.
I chose to feature the following ads from Wedding411's Spring/Summer 2014 issue
because I really like them. Why do I like them so much? It's the color combinations
within each ad that makes them stand out. They all have photo focused layouts with minimal text.
