Mimic
Mimic is a personal project inspired by rewatching "Edge of Tomorrow".
The head was made in Zbrush (my first experience with zbrush), then I decided that the tentacle system would be based on the rig bone, and not the other way around, as this would give more control over each of the tentacles and my main idea was to do it without using vellum solver.
So, I created a digital asset that allows you to build several levels of tentacles, control their tension depending on the length, a simple movement based on noise, and so on.
After the character was ready, I started shading it. All masks are made from standard noises that were applied to displacement, sss, etc.
I wanted to show Mimic walking, running, make close-up shot and add some action to scenes. So there is no storytelling. Droped some noise to color the tank, made simulations of fire, explosions, smoke, particle simulations for heat haze from tank exhaust and jet engine fire and so on. For terrain i used Quixel textures applied by masks. I builded scenes in LOP and rendered everything with Karma.
Main soft: Houdini
