Bird of Hope’ is the newest project by Ukrainian artist and toy designer Alexandr Otsabera. The assemblage is constructed of black resin and copper, standing an impressive 22cm in height (nearly 9”), with a wingspan of 19cm (7.5”.) Typical of Otsabera’s recent work, the piece mixes nature, sexuality, and religious iconography to great effect. With its stark monochromatic tone, it serves as a totem of the horrific side of man, one nonetheless imbued with hope and the promise of a brighter future. Alexandr will need five pre-orders to fund this project (he already has two), this is to cover the costs of materials and equipment. He’s not asking for any money up front, only a commitment to help realize his vision. If he can reach his five-patron goal, he will reach out to the interested parties and produce the figure in short order. I’ve supported the artist in the past and I can attest to the quality of his work, his commitment to the craft, and quick turnaround time. I feel it’s vital that we support quality art toys from underrepresented countries, championing not just those made in the United States and Japan. The figure will retail for $150USD, which includes shipping from Poland, where the artist and his family is currently living due to the war. If interested, please reach out to Alexandr directly and he will fill you in on the details
