Arx: Pet Adoption App

Arx is a mobile application designed to connect prospective pet adopters with animal shelters and rescue organizations. The app aims to facilitate the adoption process, making it easier for users to find their ideal pet while promoting responsible pet ownership. This case study will explore the user journey and experience of using the Arx pet adoption app.

The idea behind Arx was born out of a collective passion for animal welfare and the desire to address the challenges faced by both pet adopters and rescue organizations. Traditional pet adoption processes were often time-consuming, limiting potential adopters’ options and impeding shelters’ efforts to find loving homes for animals. The Arx app sought to bridge this gap by leveraging technology to create a more efficient and user-friendly adoption experience.
To create a user-centric app, I conducted extensive research and interviews with potential users, animal shelters, and rescue organizations. In order to fully understand the experiences of dog adoption; I did some background research into the pet adoption landscape, conducted a competitive analysis of some pet adoption apps, and interviewed key stakeholders; pet owners who went through the adoption process and a supervisor at an animal shelter.
By conducting this comprehensive research discovery process, I will have a deeper understanding of the current app’s strengths and weaknesses and gather valuable insights from users and stakeholders. This research will serve as the foundation for the redesign, guiding the team in creating an improved and user-centric Arx pet adoption app.
The previous Arx App Design:
The target audience for the Arx app included individuals and families interested in adopting pets from animal shelters and rescue organizations. It catered to both tech-savvy millennials with busy urban lifestyles and individuals seeking a more streamlined adoption process.

Based on the research findings, the team developed user personas to represent a diverse range of potential adopters. These personas helped me empathize with users and design a solution tailored to their unique needs and preferences. I created user personas to represent the app’s target audience. One of the key personas is Jackson.
With a comprehensive understanding of the users and stakeholders, I focused on reimagining the app’s user interface and experience. I prioritized key features, streamlined the adoption journey, and introduced innovative functionalities to enhance user engagement and adoption success rates.
To ensure the app meets its design goals, usability testing was conducted with a diverse group of potential users, including Jackson’s persona. Feedback from testers helped identify any usability issues, allowing me to make necessary improvements.
Through the redesign, the Arx app aimed to make a significant impact on the lives of animals and their future adopters. By simplifying the adoption process and fostering a supportive community, the app sought to increase adoption rates and promote responsible pet ownership, ultimately improving the well-being of pets and strengthening the bond between humans and animals.
