The harsh reality of charities and non-profit organizations is that there are a lot of needs, a lot of voices, and only so much attention from the average citizen. People are being asked for help every week and the more visible or highly publicized the problem, the more attention it tends to receive.
But there's a twist: there's a problem in our own backyards that is very urgent, if not immediately visisble:
child hunger. And unlike many of the disasters and catastrophes we see on the news, this problem doesn't require an unprecedented groundswell of support. In fact, it only takes two bucks. Often we wonder if dropping a little change in the donation box will make any difference to the problem, but in this instance a little change will make a big difference in the life of a child.
