The game is based on a historical event. In the Berners Street Hoax of 1810, the writer and gentleman of high standing Theodore Hook bet with his architect colleague Samuel Beazley whether he could make the house 54 Berners Street the most famous house in all of England. Hook wrote letters for a week and after a week he met Beazley in front of the house where a certain Mrs. Tottenham, a rich widow, lived. At 9:00 a chimney sweep arrived, ordered by Hook shortly thereafter another three chimney sweeps. After that, countless items were delivered. A wedding cake, a piano several butchers came with deliveries to the house and various doctors, lawyers and priests gathered at the house. Hook had ordered all the service providers from London to address. The streets were filled with goods and everyone wondered who was going to pay for what was delivered. Mrs. Tottenham was besieged and had the door sealed. Shortly after, a riot broke out and the whole street had to be cleared by the police. Hook had made the address 54 Berners Street known all over England in one week.
