The Inner Struggles Series

A series based on various mental illness, a tribute to the hardships of those affected. I'd always been intrigued, but also very sorry and empathic to mind diseases in this series. Hopefully, the pieces did the people undergoing such trials justice.

All pieces were included in my graduation exhibition in January of 2014 from The One Academy.
Alzheimer's.
alz·hei·mer's

A progressive form of presenile dementia that is similar to senile dementia except that it usually starts in the 40s or 50s; first symptoms are impaired memory which is followed by impaired thought and speech and finally complete helplessness.
Anorexia.
an·o·rex·i·a

An eating disorder characterized by immoderate food restriction and irrational fear of gaining weight, combined with distorted body self-perception.
Bipolar.
bi·po·lar

A mental illness that brings severe high and low moods and changes in sleep, energy, thinking, and behavior, often with episodes of mania and depression.
Anxiety.
anx·i·e·ties

A state of uncertainty, and fear resulting from the anticipation of a realistic or an unrealistic threatening event or situation, often impairing physical and psychological functioning.
Gender crisis (female)
gen·der cri·sis

The psychological diagnosis gender identity disorder (GID) is used to describe a male or female that feels a strong identification with the opposite sex and experiences considerable distress and identity conflict because of their actual sex.

Insomnia.

A persistent and chronic disorder that can make it hard or impossible to fall asleep, stay asleep or both, despite the opportunity for adequate sleep.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

An obsessive anxiety disorder in which patients are driven to repeat the same act, for example, washing their hands, over and over again, or obsessing over order and symmetry.
Repression.
re·pres·sion

Repression is a defense mechanism to keep information out of conscious awareness. However, these memories don't just disappear; they continue to influence our behavior. A person who has repressed memories of abuse suffered as a child may later have difficulty forming relationships.
Social Anxiety.
so·cial anx·i·e·ties

The avoidance, anxious anticipation, or distress in the feared social or performance situations which interferes significantly with the person's normal routine, functioning, social activities or relationships.
