COM 230 - Poster Design Project

Hi,

My Poster project is the "SAVE THE BEES" cause.
Bees numbers have fallen dramatically in recent years, affected by disease, chemicals and habitat loss. If they die, we die too.

We ask supporters to get involved by doing simple things to help save the bees:
- You can help by signing the petition to ban the use of pesticides and promote ecological farming.
- You can also help by scanning the QR code and sharing the “GreenBees” video on social media to create conscience.

Some interesting facts:
40% of bees have died since 2006 in the US alone.
30% of our food is polinated by bees.
250,000 flower species depend on bees to survive.
4,000 different vegetables rely on bees.
90% of all wild plants exist thanks to bees.

Next time you see a bee buzzing around, just remember they are not going to hurt you, but you can hurt them.

About the poster:
I used a font called Hippie Movement to create the "Save the Bees" shape of the bee heading.
Then I created the background with the Polygon Tool and then went to Object>Patter>Make and made it look like a beehive.
The Icons I made them all from scratch, using basic shapes and then you select all of them and with the Pathfinder tool you can "Unite" shapes and make it a single shape.
The flower I found an awesome tutorial super easy, where you make a Polygon and then you go to Effect>Distort & Transform>Pucker & Bloat and give it the depht you want to the petals.
Lastly, I got the QR Code online, to make the poster more interactive and so that people can save the URL on their phones.

Hope you guys like it.
Guidelines:
Select a little-known or underrepresented social or political cause. When deciding on a cause or event, pick one you feel strongly about and that encourages quick visuals to your mind. If you select a well-known cause, it will be difficult to create something new because of all the competing designs that exist. A less-publicized or less-recognized cause or organization would be easier and more fun to design for.
* Decide if you want to design a text/verbal-driven design, a visual-based design, or a poster with a synergy between these two.
* Your poster should be able to grab the attention of people walking by.
* The poster should include the social cause’s URL and phone number so that people can take action when you inspire it with your design.
* Think about whether you wish to design in a vertical, horizontal, or square format.
* Determine at least three different ways your concept could be visualized. Concentrate your conceptual thinking on finding a way to prompt people to think about the cause. Select and refine one or two concepts.
* Produce at least ten sketches.
* Be sure to establish visual hierarchy.
* Create one comp.
* The size, shape, and proportion should be dictated by your strategy, design concept, and where the poster will be seen (environment).
* You are not limited on colors.
* Every element must be your own original work. Do not grab anything from the internet with the possible exception of a photograph. You may use photographs as a small part of your visual design, but your design must also have illustrations included. In other words, your design cannot use photographs as the central point of your design. If used, photographs should be supportive of the overall design concept and be one of several elements included. If you do use photographs, be sure they are of sufficient size for use in your design and are embedded in your document.
