The steps of a circus act
Research Project
We were eager to explore the duality of Stage/Backstage as it represents a world that has a connection between itself but also represents, at the same time, two different realities with distinctive characteristics, concepts and life of their own. Theater and cinema are the two great examples that mark the art of the show and that make us dream and experience the reality that they want us to believe. All of that without leaving our sitting places. But, for this investigation work, we chose an art that exists for more than 250 years that move our hearts and our smiles. The Circus.
Our investigation process was divided in two parts and in two ways of analysis, what happens on stage and what happens on the backstage. We can compare this as the same as finding what is behind the mask of circus performance with this we had the privilege of two circus artists giving their insight on what truly happens behind the scenes of a circus act.
The purpose of this poster is to represent the approach of the artists we interviewed was towards their individual performance. Even one of them described as it being similar to gut movement as a natural fluidity in the performance on stage. To complement that we used a poem written by Naveed Akram where it talks about similar concepts of body movement. The poster is located inside of the back cover and it serves as a support to the editorial work
