SHIBUI

The former habitat came into the hands of the owner, who wanted to restore its splendour. To preserve its unique character, and at the same time modernise it. She spent a long time looking for architects who would take on this seemingly impossible challenge. As a result, she decided to realise it in the spirit of Organic Shelter. This is how the project was created, in which contemporary design and references to ancient architecture perfectly complement each other, and the interior blends with the exterior.
The keyword for this project is SHIBUI. Actually, it has no Polish equivalent, and by the Japanese it describes, among other things, objects that age beautifully, gaining in value with age. This is exactly how we view the habitat we designed. We gently redefined what is found, while retaining the leading elements that remind us of its history. The roof is decorated with thatch, the walls - exterior and interior are covered with lime paint. All this - contrary to appearances - created a harmonious, balanced background for noble forms of furnishings.

In the design of the former habitat, we opted for open spaces. We only separated a bathroom and a bedroom. The living area consists of a kitchen with a dining area and a seating area. The work area is hidden behind sliding doors. So it can 'disappear' if necessary. Right next to it is an island covered with black wood with visible grain. In the centre stood a dining table and bench by Van Rossum, together with TIM & STYLE chairs. Above them is the iconic Pierre ou Paul lamp by Ingo Maurer. In the living room, instead of unnecessary distractions, one can enjoy the view behind the large glass windows or relax by the fireplace on the Poliform sofas. Lamps (White Paper Mache Earth by Marie Michielssen for Serax) and Infinito by Davide Groppi adorn this part of the living area.

The bedroom is a consistent continuation of the whole. From the bed, one can enjoy the view of the wildlife surrounding the house. Subtlety and harmony were key to this interior. The bedside tables in the form of wooden stumps and the minimalist standing lamps by Vibia were perfect for its atmosphere. A sliding wooden door leads from the bedroom to the bathroom. In the centre is the black freestanding Cocoon bathtub. On the left - the washbasin along with a long stone countertop and mirror, and a bench referring to the organic character of the place. The entire space is conducive to tranquillity and relaxation, allowing one to get away from everyday life for a while and forget about the passing time.
