This work finds in every individual, that special thing about them, which make them unique. It was crucial to create trust and understanding, and willingness to participate, in order to present individuals through my prism. I photographed people I know as I wish to portray greater insight in their character and personalities. Similarly, they knew me and the barrier was broken down between photographer and sitter. The seclusion of the photography studio seemed to be a perfect place for that purpose. It created intimate but anonymous atmosphere, where lights and plain background, reveal their sense of self for the camera.

My photographs reflect my interest in people and the desire to photograph them subjectively. I wish to capture my sitters in repose and to show a hint of true self.

“a good portrait shows the fragility and humility of the person. And at the same time strength, a resting in themselves” (Tillmans in Ferguson, 2006: 82)
These works are a visual document, as well as portrait. I have adopted Tillmans philosophy (Ferguson, 2006) of the quality of subject and object, where sitters and photographer have to make a commitment to the situation as human beings. This mutual readiness to acknowledge personal vulnerability and weakness is needed to create a compelling portrait.
