I've been experimenting with a new 3D CADD software called Plasticity (based on Parasolid) which is both intuitive and powerful - fits nicely in my own experience with 3D CADD and also 3D DCC poly and sub-d modelling workflows.

I pull the geometry into Modo and do materials assignment, lighting and environment setup,  and rendering there.
