My main axe for the past 10+ years has been a Gibson Gary Moore signature Les Paul.
Years ago, I owned a small Behringer analog mixer that I used to record the songs I wrote (see "Your Love Is Near" below).  That mixer eventually blew up and I didn't record anything for about 10 years.  In 2010, I purchased a Behringer XENYX1204USB mixer, shown in the picture above.  It was a huge step up because it let me digitally record via USB.  This eliminated a lot of noise that is so prevalent in the typical computer's sound card.  It also has some decent built-in effects, which is another plus.

I used Adobe Audition for the multi-track recording and post processing.  
Mustang III is a 100-watt open-back combo with a 12” Celestion®
speaker that sounds great and pumps serious volume.
This was originally an acoustic instrumental. I decided to see what the Les Paul could do with it.
I kind of like it - the turnarounds have sort of a Derek and the Dominos vibe.
From Wikipedia: "In music, a serenade (or sometimes serenata) is a musical composition, and/or performance, in someone's honor. Serenades are typically calm, light music."  This tune came to me while toying around with some chord progressions.  I wasn't thinking about anyone or anything in particular, but once I decided on the name, "Serenade," I figured a video showing couples in love would be fitting.
I recorded a Martin DC Aura acoustic / electric guitar plugged directly into my mixer, rather than using a mic. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised how good the Aura electronics sound. There is a rhythm track and a lead track, along with a drum track created with Adobe Audition's Loopology.
It is hard to describe this song...layers of psychedelic guitars, Beatlesque backwards delay effect and even an EBow "flute" track! Just listen to it and decide for yourself if you like it. A Gibson Les Paul was used for everything except the lead guitar track - that is a Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster. I used the S1 Switch with the 5-way switch set to position 2 (middle & bridge pickups in series) with Tone 2 turned all the way down.

No synths were used in this recording - just the Les Paul and Stratocaster guitars recorded through a Fender Mustang III amp!

Cavefish is the surfing term for a pale surfer. This song wasn't created with the typical surf rock rhythm. It is mainly an addictive repeating riff with a bridge in the middle that attempts to break up the monotony. A Martin DC Aura acoustic provides a strange rhythm track and a Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster provides the "twang-verb" drenched lead.

Sort of an easy Surf Rock instrumental. This is mostly a Fender Stratocaster
except for the overdriven lead, which is a Gibson Les Paul.

Here is a remake of, "Sydney Sue" that I recorded just to test my latest recording setup (I put Adobe Audition on my laptop).  I can now record the Fender Mustang III via USB as well as through the Behringer mixer USB connection!   FYI:  That was the wrong picture of the Martin - that's my old DXME, not the DC Aura.  Oops!
A Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster through a Fender Mustang III amplifier ('65 Twin with Vibratone effect, Stereo Tape Delay and Small Hall Reverb.  Also features a Virtual Sound Comp 66 compressor pedal.
A lovely "French Horn" rendition of O Come All Ye Faithful. Be sure to watch / listen to the whole thing, because there is a surprise in the 2nd half of the song!
Martin DC Aura Acoustic / Electric Guitar
My latest acquisition was this Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster in tobacco burst finish.  You can hear a good example of this guitar's clean sound in the "Ode to Sergio" video.
Ode To Sergio is a nod to the great twangy guitar-laced soundtracks of Sergio Leone's "Spaghetti Western" movies.  It was recorded directly through a Mustang III amp via a USB interface.
I recorded the rhythm track in my looper pedal over the weekend just to have something to practice jamming to. This is what it turned into by Monday. This was just for practicing lead, but it has the makings of a song. A Gibson Gary Moore signature Les Paul was used on both tracks.
Loop Jam 330 - A test of the Ditto Looper pedal.  Rhythm track is the looper.  The lead track was recorded with the Mustang III amp using a microphone on the speaker.  I didn't layer any overdubs for this test, although this looper is great for that, too!

"Beatnik Boogie" ©2010 Joseph R. Ellis.  I wrote the acoustic guitar parts years ago. This was the first thing I recorded in 2010 after buying a new mixer.  A Martin DXME guitar was used for the acoustic tracks and a Gibson Les Paul and an EBow were used to create the flute track, which was pretty much written on the fly.  Note:  This recording was made before I got the USB driver installed, so it was made using the mixer's analog line out jacks.  The later recordings were all digital.

This is a guitar duet (I'm playing both parts) of "The Old Rugged Cross", arranged by Steve Kaufman.
The tempo was way too fast for that song.  Maybe I'll re-record it at the proper tempo one of these days.
