ICSC Takes a New Name

Business executive Elliot Feuerstein served as an officer of the Mira Mesa Shopping Center in San Diego, CA. A recognized entrepreneur, he has over 40 years of success as a real estate developer. Elliot Feuerstein regularly attends trade shows and maintains membership in what was known as the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), an organization that advances, elevates, and promotes the spaces and marketplaces where people seek shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Malls and shopping centers were among the hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many centers were forced to close shop for months, with employees losing their jobs. Trying to rise from the ashes of the pandemic, ICSC launched a rebrand in 2021.

Maintaining the acronym ICSC to honor the organization’s 65-year history, ICSC now means Innovating Commerce Serving Communities. The new name is being used in marketing, communications, events, and external relations.

In a statement, ICSC president and CEO Tom McGee said that the rebrand better reflects the organization’s role in the marketplace industry. The rebrand highlights the impact of the industry on the world economy and puts the organization in a better position to seize the opportunities that the future brings.
