Revel Spirits "EL POPO" Avila Mezcal Label

The following works are oil painting illustrations for use in developing branding, packaging, and advertising for Revel Spirits' El Popo Avila Mezcal. Fine Art mediums and practices in these illustrations mirror the labor and heritage of the traditional process of distilling mezcal from the agave plant, alongside the texture and the weight of the use of oil in this manner evoking the complexity of flavor and aroma of these spirits, as well as the storied culture and history of their consumption and development.
I wanted to bring a "slow" medium to a space traditionally occupied by ink and digital illustration. I believe the mediums we choose for our work can play a larger role in the story we are telling than comfort and convenience, and this project was an attempt to do just that.
I look forward to the opportunity to implement more narrative cohesion between subject and medium in an illustrative and design space more moving forward.
