IPL or ‘Intense Pulsed Light’ is an amazing technology. It works by applying gentle pulses of light to hair. The light is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair and then reaches the hair follicle.
The light energy stimulates the follicle to go into its resting phase.
As a result, hair falls out naturally and regrowth is inhibited, leaving the user with silky-smooth skin.(1)
This was a particularly complex project as the project team and I were working with an OEM supplier, with existing (un-changeable) technical architecture and with extremely tight design and usability restrictions.
This product was designed together with Philips and OEM development teams.
I led the product and user interface design within the project.
