The new old spirit od Šeher – the regeneration of the historic urban landscape

The historical urban landscape represents a space whose character is the result of the interaction of natural and human factors and includes a unique set of natural environment and physical structure with all their specificities. As a consequence of the changes during the past decades, caused by transition processes and neglect of the historical urban heritage, a series of destructive processes occur that affect the stagnation of historical urban spaces. The work was conceived in such a way as to show through theoretical and applied research that the regeneration of historical urban space is possible through potential methods of connecting the old and new spirit of the place in stagnant areas. The concept of sustainable cultural tourism is considered as a possible model for achieving the regeneration of space through the synergy of the old and new spirit of the place. Gornji Šeher, as a historically stagnant urban area, has significant potentials, the utilization of which, through the application of the sustainable tourism model, would make it possible to achieve its regeneration.
