Homey – “Friendly, Simple, and Comfy”
Proposal Merit Abstract Summary

Written by Martin Tung

Our proposed “trolley” bin is made of aluminium as material which is very cheaper and easy to produce in mass production and also strong enough to withstand any hazard. In each side ends of the bin there are “three small compartments” consisting of holes with rubber stopper and flippable doors for three different kinds of small items to be disposed into small container inside which can be taken out during the garbage collection.

Larger items such as computers can be put inside the bin through the doors in front & back sides which are designed in flipping mechanism which allows easier sliding-in-a-single-open. Homey also is mobile with hidden 4-wheels beneath the bottom surface. In this large compartment there are “splitting blocks” on wall each side which attaches the adjustable boards in many levels. There are flexible numbers of boards that can be attached into sections within this large compartment to create the sense of space for organising items, similar to that of a cupboard.

In Homey logo we see that H letter represents the open lid with ergonomic angle for a waste to be thrown in, as well as a large compartment with splitting boards inside; and O letter represents the mobility of the bin, technological power attached to the bin, and symbolic meaning in "recycling" [of garbages],"reuse, reattachment" [of bin compartments] and "reorganisation" [of splitting boards inside the large compartment].

Homey is an easy-to-understand concept defining the comfort and relaxing use of waste bin that feels like in home.
