High End Package Design

We had to redesign a packaging system for a product that could be found within the supermarket shelf. This was an exciting brief for me, as package design is something I wish to further develop and
refine my skills in.

The brief sounded simple enough, but there were a few particular aims and guidelines, which we needed to follow. Firstly, the product that we chose had to have a perceived high end in regards to the types of packaging solutions available. We were to analyses the competitors in this mid to high range, and then create a design that would differentiate itself form these competitors.

We were to also create a packaging design that would be relatively sustainable. A design which would use minimal, if none, glue or adhesive and would use materials which could be recyclable. We were to minimize consumer waste, and be easily assemble, utilizing as little resources as possible. It should satisfy the product’s needs and appeal to the target audience.

Finally, our packaging design should clearly differentiate itself from the competitors through a fresh language of design, having an independent personality.
When designing my package, the thoughts of innovations and uniqueness was in my mind. I wanted the overall design to be sustainable and recyclable as well, which informed my choice of materials. I of course wanted to create something that wasn’t too far off what was already on the supermarket shelfs so customers would still recognize the product for what it was, but still wanted to confront the outdated carton design.
