A photo study of the 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens. Mt. St. Helens isn't on the list of my top 10 favourite volcanoes --maybe in the top 20 --but this study was a great opportunity to practice skills I want to improve at.

I had to figure out how to show all the different types of clouds and eruptive materials in this shot. And I'm learning to use rough brush strokes (and minimal blending) to convey the direction and intensity of movement.

Definitely going to do more photo studies of this eruption! And there's plenty of reference photos out there to work from!

A photo study of the 1973 Eldfell eruption on Heimay. I'm new to photo studies and I mainly picked this eruption because it has a limited colour palette and lot of basic shapes. I didn't realize till after I started that this year's the 50th anniversary!
