Product Photography
In this task I was required to take professional, high quality images of any product within my discipline of Industrial Design. I decided to use a car as the subject of my photographs.
Attempt 1
The front ¾ view is usually the most common and most popular camera angle used when photographing cars. As seen in both photographs above, I used this camera angle. The cold, overcast Winter weather created a unique background. I originally relied on the afternoon sunlight to light my scene. The natural, cool lighting has created a dramatic scene. I used the headlights of the vehicle as another source of light. The additional lighting created a unique glare across the lens of the camera. As a result of some light rain, puddles were created on the floor surface which created dramatic reflections of the vehicle.

Attempt 2
Another popular camera angle used across car photography would be the rear ¾ view. As used in the above photographs. The photograph on the left, lighting is a bit low. I did not utilise the natural afternoon sunlight effectively, as a result, the cars bright red paint seems dull and the car without character. However, I changed the angle of the camera in the photograph on the right to capture the reflection of the sunlight on the cars paint to add more light so that more elegant details of the car can be seen and the paint more vibrant. I situated the car on top of the ‘stop’ painting marks on the floor surface and included the words in the photo to create contrasted symbols in the photograph. The car creates a symbol of speed, power and lawlessness whereas the ‘stop’ markings do the opposite. This creates an interesting composition.

Attempt 3
As the sun started to set, light started to become an issue. The flash of the camera would overexpose the scene and the photograph felt forced and unnatural. Instead of using the flash I started the ignition of the car and switched on the fog lights to illuminate the red plastic lights at the back of the car to create a tad more light. This small addition of light illuminated the scene very well even when the natural environmental lighting is poor.

The Favourite
In my final attempt, I applied all I had learnt to create a new ¾ front view composition. I used the natural afternoon lighting in conjunction with the cars lighting to create a photograph that has sufficient lighting. I decided to use a larger water puddle on the floor surface to capture a larger reflection of the vehicle to create an interesting, appealing image composition. The image background remains to be poorly lit. The overcast, grey skies create a contrasting background. However, the scene is still too dark, so the vehicle is almost lost in the background. An additional soft light source behind the camera would have created a better composition. This photograph remains to be one of my favourite of the few as it is the most intriguing composition which draws the human eye.

Stop Motion
As a class activity, we were divided into groups to create a stop motion film using only the materials we had in class that day. It had to have a duration of +- 5 seconds.
