FEARLESS: Youth Summit 2014

Hello everyone. Welcome to another one of those projects where I show the step by step process on how I create, design and illustrate. Here I’ll show you the design process involved in making the main theme of KKB Youth Summit 2014.
The theme of this year’s youth summit is “Fearless”. In the Bible, the battle of David vs Goliath is one of the most popular stories of courage.  My client wanted something that will show the epic battle between the two characters.

I started gathering various references of artwork portraying David and Goliath. These are not made by me; I just got them from the internet. If you own anyone of these please let me know. I can either remove your art from this post or put your name in the credits.

I don’t know who made these but I’m sure it was Sherwin Schwartzrock who illustrated the art on the lower right corner.
I tried to think of a good design and did a little research. I saw this silhouette design of the Justice League. Looks cool and I was inspired to do something like this. Whoever designed this JLA silhouette please let me know that it was you so I can credit you.

These are my initial designs of the silhouette.

My second set of design looks better. The one in the middle is supposed to be final but David’s silhouette seems to give imbalance in terms of space.  I fixed the composition which gave way to the final design on the right side.
I played around with the fonts
Let’s see which design looks best if printed on a t-shirt.
More tees
How about we experiment on some backgrounds?
I show the designs to the client and after the initial feedback I work on a few revisions. Goliath needs more detail so put some additions to his silhouette. David needs some major revisions; he looks very mature with his size and built so I was asked to make him younger.
Now we have the final design which depicts faith overcoming impossible odds. Then I sent the files to the client.
I mentioned the word “final design” a several times here but I guess there is really no final design. The layout artist only used my silhouette and used different backgrounds, fonts and other design elements. Goliath’s eyes and teeth were removed. I guess the layout here is much better, although it’s still not final. We are still waiting for Sec. Joel Villanueva’s final approval. Kudos to Mr. Jade Angelo Gascon for the layouts.
