Diamond Fingers is a horror novel coming out in July 2023. For this jacket they were looking for that psychedelic and horror blend, so I chose colors that could convey both along with the imagery of a solo hand. This was paired with a custom designed font title that could hold a classic horror look but appear modern.
Process
The client's original vision involved a hand with psychedelic imagery, so I started brainstorming various hand positioning. Because name of the book was still being decided, these drafts feature "Diamond Hands." When it came to deciding font, I wanted to offer options that ranged from more groovy to more horror based.
We started with drafts, then moved onto color combinations, and finally font and imagery refinement.
This was such a fun project to work on, and I feel we finished with that solid horror, psychedelic direction the client was seeking.
