Nobel Prize Laureates
The Nobel Prizes are awarded to laureates who, "during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind" in accordance with Alfred Nobel's will of 1895.
The five original prizes (Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, and Peace) were first awarded in 1901, with the Economic Sciences category added later in 1969, and funded by Sveriges Riksbank.
As of 2022, there are only 60 women who have been awarded a Nobel Prize out of more than 900 recipients.
