I’velearned two things in this profession: first, you never stop learning newtools; second, if you know the fundaments of design you can design anything.That was the case of designing a Database for Cuore della Foresta. I learned howto manage Filemaker Pro and how to design a database in general.

It isdifficult to accept projects without know how you are going to finish it, but Ithink life is about challenges and obstacles, isn’t it? I started this projectby understanding the nature of a database. It took me one day to understand theprincipals and two weeks to apply them. Ironically, the hardest part to learnis to let your mind flow into the knowledge. Once you have it on your mind youneed to let it flow.

Thedatabase is able to manage an Event just like it was done before on-paper. Itcaptures the specifications for the event: client’s data, kind of event, menu,kind of tables and chairs, additionals and finances. It can manage invoices andprint specific information for waiters, providers, and cuisine. Also it hassecurity elements like name and date modification. I love my database!

FilemakerPro is a great tool. Create relationships between elements and designing theinterface was easy. I have had a good time making things work. It took me amonth to complete the whole project. At the end I was happy to put somethingnew to my portfolio and to my resume: not that I know Filemaker Pro but that Iam a skillful learner.
