A leader in energy efficient and hybrid home design, which is still distinctly unique in the Australian building industry. Bendigo based firm Outlier desires to shift the way housing is viewed in Australia. Homes should be thought of as—a place that provides for Australians now and well into the future. Not as a commodity for resale.

The existing wordmark was developed without a supporting design system and Graphic Standards manual. We revisited the existing work pushing and refining it further. To deliver a robust brand in line with Outliers work, values and mission.



APPROACH

Outlier describes a fact, figure, or piece of data that is very different from all the others in a set and does not seem to fit the same pattern. A reader friendly warm yet sharp grotesque was used, Diatype. No unnecessary embellishments were used. Leaving an understated and modern mark. The deliberate use of the period signifies a piece of data, visually connecting the wordmark, icon and supporting graphic elements.​​​​​​​

Colour

A powerful tool. The use of colour is emotive and can be a differentiator amongst peers. Observing the unique landscape of Australia, in particular Central Victoria where the firm is located; the palette aims to reflect local soils and flora.



The use of handwriting (in rare instances) and natural photography adds a personal touch to the brand. Demonstrating the hands on and people focused approach of Outliers work.


Developing resources, sharing findings, and learnings is of great importance. Templates were been created to easily communicate various offerings/findings in the three major categories of Research, Education and Projects.


During the construction of clients homes Outlier conducts several important tests. Gathering informative data to be shared. Data can be clear and beautiful. Allowing their findings to communicate with their peers, audience and potential clients.



Craftsmanship and quality are central to the brand. Therefore printing processes, paper-stock and fabrics have been selected to reflect this focus.
