My Pals

A short film about the bond between a man and his favorite software.

Following the story of C4D, Folder, and Soundcloud, viewers are taken on a journey through Windows - often landing in worlds that emulate their software.

My Pals is a story about stylizing and exaggerating every day tasks on a PC.

Concept

The idea behind My Pals is simple, follow a group of programs as they fulfill their daily tasks, but make it cute and colorful.

Imagine an alternate universe where the world is made up of Windows OS. What would that look like?

Style

Each environment was crafted to pay homage to the software that inspired it. I sought out to craft 3D worlds that used a graphical approach, and never leaned too heavily into any particular medium.

In short, the style was derived from the concept, which was to recreate Windows in a fun and inviting way.

Design Development

Some initial concepts that didn't make it into the final cut.

Story

The main story was inspired by my everyday routine. Being a 3D designer and animator, C4D plays a big role in my daily life. Searching for files and then deleting them, playing music, all things I do on a daily basis.

I wanted to develop characters based on the software I was using and to do that, I'd have to create storylines for each. A bunch of pals bouncing back and forth from task to task. And finally, ending in a playground made out of Windows.
