Walgreens Health Coaching Process and Skills Training

Walgreens Health, Health Coach Process and Skills Training
What originally started out as a coach training and onboarding program I was tasked to design to support onboarding coaches to be able to deliver the MVP Pilot program we develop turned Into a coaching process and skills training while our program was paused. I brought In another colleague who Is also a NBC-HWC and we co-designed and co-lead a team of coaches and clinicians through a 4 part training. We designed It aligned with the NBHWC and based on core competencies I created for Walgreens Health.

Skills and Expertise: Learning experience design, Coaching training, Training + Instructional design
Co-designing this workshop series with my colleague Trisha Bhagen was a lot of fun. We combined our various design thinking and Instructional design backgrounds to define the project, analyze the learners, list the tasks, write the objectives, and structure the courses. We Infused the empathy, define, Ideate, prototype, and testing steps of the design thinking process throughout our own process as well. We split the content and delivered a coaching process and skills training Infused with demos and practice sessions. Afterwards, we talked to the learners and did a debrief on how we could Improve for the next round.

Empathy: Analyzed learning team and their various coaching knowledge and skill levels
Define: Defined coaching core competencies and QA/QI grading rubric, defined project and overall learning objectives based on time constraints and learning analysis
Ideate: Using the information from the empathy and define stage, as well as our subject matter expertise from our various coaching training backgrounds, Trisha and I put our brains together to come up with an instructional arc, skills, and learning objectives for each potential course
Prototype: We put together the coaching process and skills trainings based on learning objectives for each session
Test: Trisha and I held trainings which included demos and practice sessions over a 6 series workshop
Evaluate: We did both a self-evaluation and elicited feedback from the team on what could be improved for the next round

Iterate: I was asked to give a brief Motivational Interviewing training to the pharmaceutical team. Taking feedback from the first presentation I gave to the coaching team, I iterated content slightly to allow for more practice time.
Samples of core competencies and grading rubric Trisha and I developed we used as a point of reference to design the coaching process and skills training.
