Walgreens Health General Prevention Coaching Experience

Walgreens Health MVP General Prevention Coaching Pilot Program
One of the first projects I was put on at Walgreens Health, a startup funded by Walgreen Boots Alliance, was a general preventative health and wellness coaching program for an employee population who Is living with pre-diabetes, pre-hypertension, hypertension, and/or obesity. I was part of a team of coaches, clinicians and social determinants of health experts who designed and brought this program to life. I stepped Into more of a leadership role for this program.

Skills and Expertise: Intervention design, Experience design, Learning experience design, Service design, Script writing, Coaching training, Training + Instructional design
The MVP program consisted of a 12-week general preventative curriculum, weekly asynchronous text coach, and opt-in live coaching calls. The program had four main focuses regarding health and wellness: Thrive, Nourish, Move, and Rest. I participated In team brainstorms to develop the arc of the supporting educational content, led the way on what metrics we would collect on how the program was being used, developed the coaching scripts and chat message templates, co-developed awareness building questions used throughout the curriculum content, provided subject matter expertise on "thrive" content, and co-developed coaching program procedures and protocols.
Sample of how Values + Wellbeing Lesson came to life. While I provided subject matter expertise on values, goals, the difference between the two, and a supporting uncovering values exercise (pictured above), my colleagues wrote and wove the content Into a lesson and our design team brought it to life with a PDF. Pictured above Is a sample of the self-reflection / discovery questions I helped to co-create throughout the curriculum, with the Intention of eventually having Interactive content for a self-paced course. See below for sample of how our chat template messages connected the lessons.

Week 1 Post Call Message (to send after first call)
IF on track:
Hi [NAME]! It was SO nice to officially meet you and kick your program off on the phone just now. I’m excited to guide you over the next 12 weeks to help you start to realize your health and wellness vision of [INSERT ANY RELEVENT INFORMATION FROM PHONE CONVERSATION].

As mentioned on today’s call, your first supportive lesson is called Values and Wellbeing Over the Lifespan. It encourages you to explore and identify your personal values as the basis for creating a life of purpose and meaning and helps you to discover the four pillars of health and wellness – Nourish, Move, Rest and Thrive – as the foundation for well-being throughout your lifespan.

I’m curious, what does having a full, rich life mean to you? What values of yours do you feel this reflects? Feel free to either reflect on these questions on your own or start a conversation with me here in the chat – whatever you’re most comfortable with.

Week 1 Follow Up
Hi [NAME]! How have the first few days in the program been going for you so far? I’m curious, what values did you identify after reading through the first lesson? How would making changes in [PULL FROM VISION OR PILLAR THEY STATED THEY WANT TO START IN] move you towards your values?

Take your time in completing the lessons. They’re there to support you on your wellness journey. Once you do, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the above.

[IF they’ve been reporting] Thanks so much for filling out the daily survey and your starting weight.
[IF they haven’t been reporting] Remember to fill out the daily survey on your home dashboard and record your starting weight with your Withings scale.

Our check-in day is [DAY]. I’ll send the next lesson at that time.
I designed the consultation scrips In a way that both supported the program and integrated what the member was learning, helping to narrow the focus for the coach based on text conversations they were already having with a member, all while giving space for the coach to have autonomy, coaching In a way that they already knew how.
