Makeup of Cork - Emily Piggott, Final Year Project

'Makeup of Cork' is a digital artivism project that highlights the discrepancy between Cork city infrastructure. It explores socio-economic and cultural issues within Cork city by looking directly at derelict buildings and their inherent identity with Cork city. Primarily it’s a photographic study, but it also uses creative coding and tangible computing methods in the form of both arduino and RFID tags to generate random digital compositions and collages from the photographic information I’ve collected. It hints at the importance Cork Street Art has in movements, activism and protests surrounding issues erected in the city by embedding RFID tags within spray can nozzles that users can physically pick up and move onto a real life canvas that triggers the digital composition to appear on screen, almost as if the user is 'painting' the digital canvas themselves, and therefore being an active participant in Cork artivism. The graffiti font used in the text graphics furthers this notion.
