The Warkaris : A Photographic Tribute to a Living Tradition

Wari Festival is a journey of faith and joy that brings thousands of Warkaris (Devotee/Pilgrim) to Pandharpur, the home of Lord Vitthal. They carry the Paduka (Footwear ) of their beloved saint-poets like Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram in Palkhi's following their footsteps to the holy town.

As a photographer, I was drawn to the vibrant and varied expressions of devotion that the Warkaris displayed along the way. I decided to present my series in monochrome to highlight the timeless spirit of this tradition that has been alive for over 800 years.

In this project you will witness the Warkaris love for Vitthal (God) in their songs, dances, games, rituals and moments of rest. Let me take you to this journey and experience the beauty of Wari Festival through my lens.
