Description: Amidst the mounting tensions surrounding political and social issues before the outbreak of COVID-19, I embarked on designing a thought-provoking poster that employed deconstructive typography. The purpose was to shed light on the media's response to the devastating wildfires that ravaged Australia in 2019-2020, resulting in the loss of billions of animal lives.
Using a symbolic approach, the poster juxtaposed headlines from articles covering Donald Trump's impeachment trials, creating a precise crosshair targeting a kangaroo's head. This imagery symbolized how the news industry, preoccupied with political affairs, played a role in the ongoing tragedy happening to Australian wildlife. The poster's color scheme, photography, and incorporation of relevant keywords from surrounding headlines captured the burning chaos of that time, and made a poignant commentary on the social climate before the pandemic.
This poster design achieved recognition and acclaim, earning the prestigious "Best of Student College/Digital Work" award at the Graphic Arts Association Neographics Competition in 2020.
