Our Summer course workshop includes hand-made book binding, hand-made paper, alternative printing techniques [cyanotype + turmeric powder anthotype], journal and scrapbook making. Students use mixed media, found objects, discarded items, polaroids, handwriting, and cut-up writing.

But why cyanotype and scrapbooking in the AI era?
Cyanotype provides graphic designers with historical and artistic appreciation of traditional printing techniques. It allows experimentation with unconventional graphics, textures, and elements. The hands-on process offers a break from digital workflows and a fresh perspective on design. Cyanotype prints can be incorporated into graphic design projects, adding a tangible and organic touch. Cyanotype inspires new ideas, fostering creativity and offering unique visual effects.
Scrapbooking enhances creativity by combining photographs, typography, textures, and colours to create visually appealing layouts. It develops manual dexterity, precision, and attention to detail, valuable for physical prototypes, packaging design, or print production. Scrapbooking involves material exploration, inspiring innovative approaches in graphic design. It helps designers understand personalisation and storytelling, applicable to branding, marketing campaigns, and user experiences. Scrapbooking encourages conceptual thinking and cohesive themes, beneficial for visual identities, brand campaigns, and publications.
