ALVAR AALTO LIBRARY

My task was to develop a series of pictograms to improve navigation
in the library. Central Alvar Aalto Library is located in Vyborg,
is a local landmark and an important object in modern architecture
and design. It was built in 1933-1935 by the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.
The guidelines for development were neutrality, timelessness
and easy readability of pictograms. For this reason I searched for a simple design that would be understandable to numerous tourists with different cultural codes.

NEUTRALITY
READABILITY

I think the graphic similarity is decisive in the identify of a space or brand, so I decided
to transport the design features of the library (wave-shaped ceilings, the original lighting system — round windows in the ceiling, smooth curves of the interior).
Also, Aalto is a Finnish surname meaning "wave".

Natural materials (wooden elements) will stand out against the background of white walls, and will also be well combined with the the design of the building.

THANKS FOR WATCHING!
