NON INTERVENTION | Familiarising a forgotten antiquity

NON INTERVENTION | Familiarising a forgotten antiquity

Act 1
Coming out of the church of Santa Croce it hears footsteps and laughter.
Unconsciously it follows them? Now it is in P. P. Pasolini Street. Suddenly it realizes
that it is deviating from its course and it decides to return to the city center. It notices
on its left a path disappearing into the trees? It decides to follow it again.
The path is surrounded by dense, tall vegetation and its boundaries are indistinct.
Among the tree trunks it discerns a stone element, a forgotten antiquity. A metal
element defines the path. Its hears its footsteps on the gravel. The metal element as
it proceeds becomes a channel of running water and soon after a sitting area. It sits
to enjoy the warmth of the sun.
The trail continues. The metal element takes the form of a handrail and leads it down
the staircase in front of it.
Act 2
It has reached the last step and its attention is drawn to the Nymphaeum. It hears
talking from somewhere nearby, but the people it sees are in the distance. It
searches with its eyes and realizes that the metal element now leads it down a
gravel-lined path and introduces it to successive mirror-lined boxes. It sees the
reflection of Nymphaeum everywhere. Curious as it is it explores looking only to
discover what the boxes are hiding.
The bar is crowded. Some are reading their books, others are chatting and others are
rehearsing their lines. It all feels staged and yet intimate, like scenes from everyday
life.
Across the street from Nymphaeum another box? The seating hall for the audience.
So the Nymphaeum is the actors' stage, it thinks.
Act 3
It reaches the ticket office and buys a ticket. It has lost track of time. It sits in a seat
and observes the people. It cannot tell who are the audience and who are the actors.
The metal element rises in front of it and supports the quintet. It begins to drizzle?
The smell of wet earth reaches its nose. It hears the drizzles falling into the channel
of the Nymphaeum, behind the stage.
The curtain opens and the lights point towards it. The actors sit next to him as they
stand on stage. He feels like an actor among them.
