XCU — A bimonthly specialist magazine focusing on British Cinema. Each issue focuses predominantly on one feature film, exploring everything from casting right through to the edit. And hosts Independent cinema reviews, a section on iconic filmmakers and reviews of recent releases.

My intention was to create a realistic, functional specialist magazine to fit into a gap in the market I have identified. Currently, there is not a magazine that caters to people who want to attain knowledge on British film, specifically the ins and outs of the film making process rather than just an insight into the Actors experiences. I designed the magazine in a way which would make it aesthetically appealing, with an almost limited edition feel, this way people are not only intrigued but would want this book sitting on their shelf.
The design of the iPad publication is very similar to that of the actual book and contains many of the same features. However, the addition of the digital element meant that the incorporation of an interactive level, which is not possible with traditional printed books, could be attained. Additional features include a side panel; this would be used for additional information, particularly profiles of a specific person. Many times when you’re reading a magazine you see a name and can’t quite remember what else they have done, this feature will eliminate this problem. You’ll be able to access a brief profile on the person in question, which will include a list of films they have been involved in, as well as links to related articles and videos.
