Reverberations: Nicole Miller Print Project

For our second semester studio component of sophomore apparel, we were each assigned a print that Nicole Miller and her staff had previously designed.  With only having less than five yards, our project was simple: create something wearable out of only that print (plus a small amount of another fabric if desired).  As long as one could still "read" the fabric as the orignial print, we could do whatever we wanted to it.

While studying my print, I became inspired by the juxtaposition of a human form against a grid.  Whereas a grid is static and confinining, a human is not; humans are in constant motion.  With this in mind, I created a completely reversible poncho that contains 4 elastic drawstrings, snaps, and hooks that allow you to wear the poncho over 30 different ways.  Along with the poncho, I created a pair of shorts in which I took out the "blue" streaks/stripes in the print to create a more solid purple stripe in the short.

Materials used: Cotton print, nylon, elastic, plastic cord ends

I would especially like to thank Nicole Miller, Maya Samach, Sarah Morse, and Elpi Saranti for supplying the print, modeling, photographing, and everything else that went into making my creation.
