Pakistan’s Indus Ecoregion is home to unique flora, fauna and 20 million inhabitants. It is also home to an initiative that is attempting to ensure their mutual survival even fifty years from now.

The Indus Ecoregion is one of 238 priority sites identified as the world’s most important ecoregions. Out of the five selected ecoregions in Pakistan, Indus Ecoregion is the only one that lies completely within the geographical borders of the country. It is located in the lower Indus Basin, covering about 65% of Sindh province, and consists of six ecosystems: freshwater, marine, coastal, desert, riverine and agriculture. The area holds a network of protected areas, including 1 national park, 13 game reserves, 33 wildlife sanctuaries and 10 Ramsar sites and is home to a number of endemic species, such as the Indus Blind Dolphin, Rita Catfish and various plant species.
