Lady Pank / Lyrics Book

Poetry Zine / Lyric Zine of the renowned Polish band - Lady Pank
The band emerged in 1980s Poland - a period marked by the prominence of the Polish People's Republic (PRL) and the Solidarność movement.

About the band:

Lady Pank quickly rose to fame, becoming the voice of the youth and the embodiment of rebellion. Even today, they continue to create music, and their lyrics undeniably occupy a special place in the hearts and minds of countless people.

Their formation coincided with a crucial time in Polish history - The PRL, a socialist state, governed the country, and the Solidarność movement, a trade union advocating for workers' rights and political reform, gained widespread support. Lady Pank's music resonated deeply with the younger generation, who sought an outlet to express their frustrations, dreams, and desires for change.
With their powerful and thought-provoking lyrics, Lady Pank captured the spirit of the times.
Their songs became anthems for the youth, reflecting the struggles and aspirations of a generation yearning for freedom and a brighter future.
Their music provided solace, inspiration, and a sense of unity in a society that often suppressed individual expression.

Lady Pank's impact extends far beyond the realm of music. They played a significant role in shaping the cultural landscape of Poland, using their platform to advocate for change and challenge the status quo.

Concept:

Drawing inspiration from my country's history and the impact of the band's formation, I sought to infuse the design with subtle nuances that encapsulate the spirit of that era.
I endeavored to create a visual representation that seamlessly aligns with the historical backdrop of 1980s Poland and reminds me of my dads momento's from that time.

The initial concept that emerged while crafting the cover design was inspired by the essence of old "choir books." These inexpensive songbooks, often inherited from the 90s, typically featured colorful covers, while the inside pages were either printed in black and white on low-quality paper or photocopied from the original. This concept remained steadfast throughout the entire creative process.

The deliberate choice of a "brown paper dust cover" serves as a deliberate means to convey the essence of the era and the circumstances that surrounded us. As Wrocław serves as the birthplace of the band, it invokes a feeling of home, so a pixelated panoramic image of Wrocław in the 80s literally "hugs" the publication, and protects it.

Intentionally introducing subtle variations in paper quality for different editions, along with designs on the inside pages that may sometimes include doodles left behind by previous owners, I aimed to create a product that resonates with my father's music collection, while also exuding that exact sense of "home" to me.
