Spotify Ramadan

This year, Spotify celebrates Ramadan with a personalized and curated experience. This is reflected through content that changes each day, featuring personalized playlists and recommendations. To enhance the experience, The 1984 was appointed to create a set of key visuals that complement the theme. Implemented by Spotify Indonesia and Spotify Egypt, they sought an idea that would be recognizable to users in both countries. Through creative discussions with the Spotify team, we settled on a night and day theme, as the positions of the sun and moon play an important role in establishing fasting times.
The inspiration for Spotify Ramadan's design system came from the Mirhab, which is an arch with common decorative traits found in Islamic architecture worldwide. We developed a system where the sky backdrop and arches can be interchanged. This allows the Spotify team to freely adjust the proportions of the arches to fit different device sizes and requirements.
