Whale Whale Whaling | A branding project

Through the research I did on whales, I will explore what makes that entity what it is, what are its components, how it relates to its environment, how it relates to its allies/enemies, how it relates to its contexts.
And with visual/textual elements, I will then create a thoughtfully designed series of screens to present
my findings.

WHALES AND WHALING
Throughout history, whales have always been seen as an existence that is above ordinary, they have been feared, worshipped and honoured. Not until the 17th century, when whaling had expanded and become an industry, whales’ population had dropped dramatically.
Unlike the native people, whalers aim for the profits, so they always favour the benefits over sustainability, which they would try to take down as many whales as they could and do not even mind exploiting
the whole species.

The idea I want to express through my entity is an endangered species that has been exploited for such a long time and nowadays not only the hunting activity that make their population drop so much but also other factors like ship strikes, climate change and voice population, which are all related to humans, have threatened their life. However, in this video, I will only focus on the whaling topic as this is the main reason for whales’ population decline. To be more specific, I will bring the audiences back to the 17th century, when the whaling industry bloomed.

The posters are designed to promote the brand in the coastal areas. ‘Cá ổng cá ông’ is a type of spoonerism in Vietnam, which is translated to ‘whale whale’ but in a playful way, this is made so that the entity can be more appealing to the context of Vietnam.
