VR Controller Set for Natural Drawing Experience.
Designed by Jiwoong Yang / 2023 / Product Design
VR space is one infinite canvas. Beyond the constraints of space, we are free to express ideas in our heads. However, the existing controller has a different shape from the form of the tool we usually draw. The tool to express our ideas freely is a game machine that is split in half, so can we draw well with a game machine? For drawing in a virtual space that is different from reality, we need a creative device with a more familiar, sophisticated, and free form, not a game console.

Visibility in VR is also important, but the physical shape of the controller in our hands is also important. VR devices used in entertainment such as games and sports have the shape of a gun or add separate stock options, giving users a deep sense of immersion with special physical shapes.
As such, the advantages of the physical interface have become one of the important factors in virtual spaces that are disconnected from reality.

Medium is a set of controllers and a drawing system with two different shapes. Unlike in reality, for a more familiar drawing experience in a virtual space where there is no reference point, it takes the physical shape of the drawing tool of reality, not the game console.
The pen controller in the right hand can trace the IR LED along the swung trajectory to draw a free curve, as if spraying a brush in the air, and rotates the grip connected to the pen to provide a drawing experience tailored to the user with various gripping methods.
The left-hand pallet controller can interact with the interface in the virtual space when used alone in the shape of a round trackpad, which serves to assist the pen controller and provides a more sophisticated drawing experience as a physical interaction with the pen controller.
