What makes us human is our ability to feel emotion, pain being the most powerful of these sentiments. Throughout our lives, many of us undergo instances or phases of hurt or suffering. These difficult memories leave tender marks upon our consciousness. Even through the passing of time, as the feelings subside to a dull ache, they continue lie latent, internalized and buried deep within.

Grief is a shared condition;
we are vessels of our private sorrows.
What we need is catharsis.

    For this project, we boldly entreated friends and strangers to share vestiges of their most vulnerable moments with us. Little did we expect them to oblige. Day after day, we received beautiful etchings of despair, cryptic yet imbued with so much meaning. We tried to revive these impressions into a new form, striving for ablution. To do justice to their generosity.

    For the project, we used the marks to create letterforms, which we then combined together to form a quote that elucidated the concept. We also attached a copy (printed on paper that dissolves in water) in the mail that one could keep for remembrance. We also made a short video clip that shows the prints disintegrating.
