Artistic Reporting of Minorities in the Media
I took Media Literacy during my second semester and our task was to do a presentation on a given topic. My partner and I fot the topic of Artistic Reporting of Minorites in the Media. For me it was a really challenging topic, since first I didn't really know what we meant under artistic reporting. We had to do a lot of research, and in the end we put togethet a quite interesting presentation.

WHAT IS ARTISTIC REPRESENTATION?
Much of what audiences know and care about is based on the images, symbols, and narratives in radio, television, film, music, and other forms of media.  How individuals construct their social identities, how they come to understand what it means to be male, female, black, white, Asian, Latino, Native American—even rural or urban—is shaped by commodified texts produced by media for audiences that are increasingly segmented by the social constructions of race and gender.

WHAT IS ISLAMOPHOBIA?
The term "Islamophobia" was first introduced as a concept in a 1991 Runnymede Trust Report and defined as "unfounded hostility towards Muslims, and therefore fear or dislike of all or most Muslims." The term was coined in the context of Muslims in the UK in particular and Europe in general, and formulated based on the more common "xenophobia" framework.
Those interviewed "found a direct correlation between media portrayal and their social experiences of exclusion, hatred, discrimination and violence".
Popular films ranging from Hollywood blockbusters to children's cartoons are depicting "crude and exaggerated" stereotypes of Muslims and perpetuating Islamophobia, according to a study
A report by the Islamic Human Rights Commission argues that films as diverse as The Siege, a portrayal of a terrorist attack on New York starring Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis, the Disney film Aladdin and the British comedy East is East have helped demonise Muslims as violent, dangerous and threatening, and reinforce prejudices.
This video is very important when discussing this topic.
