Mallard duck sketches - day 1 of posting everyday

In the morning I decided to take up a request for drawing ducks. I used simple page of a notebook with lines and my favourite mechanical pencil. I don't usually focus on birds but I'm quite happy with the results.

If you wish to recreate I suggest:

• using a thin paper that isn't high quality if you're a beginner
• art is about practice and making mistakes so don't be afraid of throwing out a few papers
• using a pencil that's on the harder side like most commonly used HB and using softer ones for details like B2
• references help understand how an object (in this case animal) presents itself, maintains balance etc.
• male Mallards have a dark, iridescent-green head and bright yellow bill.
• the gray body is sandwiched between a brown breast and black rear.
• females and juveniles are mottled brown with orange-and-brown bills.
