Heartbeat Topography
2023 Real-Time Audio-Reactive Project
Heartbeat Topography is a real-time audio visualization project that draws inspiration from Polyvagal theory.
Focusing on breathing,
it converts the detected heartbeat into visual topography to guide users in establishing a connection with their own bodies.
I translate the rhythmic beats of the heart into tangible elements of the landscape.
These visual landscapes vary based on the intensity and frequency of the sound, each individual's unique data gives rise to a distinctive and personalized terrain.
When the users' breath and cardiac rhythms synchronise with the visual cues they perceive,
it could promote the internal balance of our bodies.
This phenomenon is often associated with entrainment, where external stimulation, such as visual cues or rhythmic patterns, influences and aligns with internal physiological processes.
