Liminal Space Design: NASA ANDC

The design program intends to explore, identify and reinterpret the liminal space in the respective context with a vision to inform a society. Liminal spaces are those thankless transition in-between spaces, that remain in the backdrop to highlight or connect with the primary functional boundaries.

Our proposal was shortlisted among the top 10 entries across India for the Annual NASA Design Competition, National Association for Students of Architecture.
Site Location: Rajajinagar, Bangalore Site Category: Public Stairway space connecting two streets. A thorough analysis of the site area was done post primary data collection through interactions with the users & other primary observations. The major issues found in this space were garbage dumping, uneven steps & poor lighting. The space had the potential to be developed further and put to better use. Thus the design proposal sought to solve these issues by creating stepped seating spaces, introducing lighting, informative wall murals, a shaded pergola with creepers etc. which would attract the users and make it a safe and hygienic transition space.
