In Oslo and Akershus there are 335 public transportation departures every minute, totalling 326 000 departures per day on any given weekday. However, despite an impressive availability, the network can be difficult to navigate and thus act as a barrier against people taking full advantage of the services it offers.
 
The goal with the redesign of Ruter’s information system, spanning customer information centres, new signage, maps and information brochures, is to make it easier for the customer to navigate the transportation system and incentivise commuters to travel by public transport rather than other means of transportation.
Grid Design has developed, designed, tested and implemented all aspects related to public transport information for Ruter. Furthermore, we have also developed and designed a fully integrated and interactive digital design manual. Customer surveys clearly indicate that the new information system decreases commuters’ aversion to using public transportation; they experience a sense of achievement, as the transport system is easy to navigate, making travelling by bus, metro or train fast and easy.
